American Staffordshire Terrier (short coat) : : Male : : Adult : : Large
Name: Backup Backup is the kind of dog that only comes around once in a while... And I get it - like, who names a dog "Backup" right? Well here's the deal. He IS your backup. For whatever you need him for. Backup snuggler when your partner is away? Check. Backup tug of rope player when your other family members don't want to play with you anymore? Check. Backup babysitter when you want to be able to cook dinner and someone needs to play tea party with your daughter? Check. So, once you get to know him, "Backup" just fits. Backup is amazing. The easy stuff like crate training and house training? Done. He's 100% on all of it. Honestly I bet he doesn't need to be crated, but since we crate our other dog I don't think its fair to not crate him. And he doesn't mind. He's never had an accident in our house and I don't think ever would. He knows commands. He knows to sit and wait for treats and food (although he WILL try to pretend he doesn't know this and see what he can get away with!). He will walk nicely at your side while on walks. He knows to play gently with those that play gently, and will wrestle play rough with those that wrestle play. He has NO issues with toys and other dogs, does not guard anything and only wants to play. Backup only wants to play, truly. And love. He is happiest when he has a playful and confident dog friend and he should go to a home where he has a canine companion. He is also happiest in a home where his people are consistent with him. He is very well mannered and well trained, but is also VERY smart :) If he thinks he can let his manners fly out the window, he will!! But he thrives in a situation where he knows what is expected of him and knows what to expect from his people and he is truly a gem.
All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities.
If you live in MN, WI, IA, SD, ND, or IL and would like to meet/adopt this animal or anyone else, then please fill out an adoption application at
http://secondhandhounds.org/ Note - We change an animal's listing to say "PENDING ADOPTION" when they already had a meet and greet with a family who plans to adopt that animal. We put "NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS" on a listing when an animal has multiple applications in and the foster has asked to stop accepting any more while they review the applications they've already received.
Thanks for your interest in Secondhand Hounds!!
