Husky (long coat) : : Female : : Adult : : Large
Name: Dakota She’s house broken and very good about going outside. When she’s not in motion, she craves attention. Dakota does have signs of separation anxiety when left home alone. This anxiety is largely reduced by having a second dog with her, so an ideal family for her will have a resident dog, and / or will have someone home often. A stay at home family member, part time worker, etc. would be fantastic for her. She’ll stand up on your shoulders and give you a hug with both front paws. At night she wants to cuddle and is completely at peace sleeping on top of you. She would love an exercise partner to walk or run her everyday and sprinkle in some visits to the dog park. She does well on a leash but is still learning some of the basics about not wrapping herself around trees and posts. At the dog park she gets along great with everyone while running with dogs and bouncing around. She stays close by and comes when called. Our resident husky loves her and they get along very well. Baby gates and other forms of confinement are no match for her. She’s smart with her nose and uses it to push on gates, doors and any other barrier. A five-foot retaining wall didn’t even slow her down. With little effort she was over it in a quick bound. She also hates being crated to the point where much work would need to be done to make her comfortable with that type of confinement. As with all huskies, Dakota is an escape artist, so someone with Siberian Husky experiance would be very good for this girl. Given even a tiny opportunity she is out the door and running. She needs a family that will be extremely diligent about keeping her on a leash or within a well-fortified fence. She adores all people, kids and dogs but has an extremely strong predator instinct so would not do well with cats or small animals. And if she sees a rabbit or squirrel she would stop at nothing to catch it. We’ve lived with countless huskies and Dakota ranks at the top in her sweet demeanor, unyielding affection and intelligence. She will be an absolutely wonderful addition to the right home and will instantly melt the hearts of her new family. All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities.
