From the Foster: Zane is the most “turn key” foster dog we’ve fostered as far as his temperament and training goes.  He is very easy going and has adapted to our family extremely fast.  He will come around and see what we are doing periodically, but also is content to be curled up on the dog bed on the couch.  Just being in the same room is enough for him.  He enjoys our dog Max, which we believe is due to the family of friends he left behind once they were rescued.  He likes his snuggles and is very patient at being told when he can jump up on your legs for a pet or a scratch behind his ears. It is evident that Zane was not trained by his previous owner.  Obedience training will benefit him and we expect a quick learner.  Considering that Zane, is an amazingly well behaved young man. Although he does not seem to know basic commands like sit, stay, down etc-  he isn’t naughty and he learns quickly with what we’ve taught him already.  Zane is learning how to sit for treats and take them nicely.  He has very good table manners considering the diet he must have been on to get to his size.  He does not beg even though he knows what people food is.  He does not seem to have any guarding issue, food or toys. Zane is potty trained and does well in his crate.   We have heard him bark once the whole time we’ve had him – this is really impressive considering the encouragement he gets from our dog Max.  He is very tolerant of the energy our 2 ½ year old “shares” with him.  We wonder sometimes what he thinks of her J.   Zane has shared only his sweet, easy going, and mellow temperament with us – no signs of any aggression.

Fun and Important Facts about Zane:

  • ·         Potty Trained:  Yes!!!!
  • ·         Crate Trained:  Yes – he likes lots of padding in his crate.  He is only in his crate at night.
  • ·         Needs leash training: Zane will need leash training, but he appears to do rather well with it so far.
  • ·         Healthy:  Zane has been neutered recently.  He wasn’t taken care of the best before coming to the shelter, so he will be getting his teeth cleaned, his ears cleared up of an infection, and on a diet food to address his chubbiness (even though it’s really cute).
  • ·         Low - Medium Energy:  Zane likes his walks around the yard and the small walk we’ve been on, but doesn’t have a super high energy level.  This may be due him not feeling the best right now.  We also assume that his weight restricts him from a certain level of activity.  We are working on this and expect that to improve as he reaches a more healthy weight.  He can be found crashed on his doggie bed most of the day relaxing.
  • ·         Sleeping Arrangements:  Right now Zane is in his crate at night.  His foster family has a 2 ½ yr old daughter that comes in their room at night.  We want to avoid any 3 am surprises for anyone so this is a rule for all foster dogs, not just Zane.   Zane has made a few attempts to “persuade” us to let him sleep in bed with us.  We think he did that at his previous home.  He would make a great cuddler at night!

Zane is really a content, sweet dog that will not demand a lot of high energy care and is satisfied with just being included in our daily lives.  Zane will do well in any home and deserves one that will love him and treat him as the wonderful guy that he is.  Will it be your home that will be lucky enough to adopt him?
