From the Foster:
Palmer came in as a very scared puppy. While he has made great progress over the last few weeks, he still isn’t a typical puppy yet. In order to continue progressing, Palmer will need another confident dog in his forever home to help him feel more comfortable and teach him how to dog. His forever home shouldn’t be too chaotic either to avoid overwhelming him.
We have slowly been expanding Palmer’s world at home and he currently has free range of the living room and prefers to hang out on the couch or play with my pup. He’s pretty good about using the potty pads as the outside world is too scary right now to go outside. Palmer also isn’t so sure about humans just yet, but he no longer shakes when being touched and will choose to sit on the couch when I’m already there. We continue to positively reinforce that people are good with lots of yummy treats. Palmer’s forever family will need to continue to take cues from him and be patient as he learns how to dog.
Palmer is currently using a few different behavior modification treatments to help with his anxiety including a pheromone diffuser, probiotics, and medication. Continuation of these treatments should be discussed with your veterinarian. Our training team can also provide resources to help you as well!
Palmer is a total sweetie and you can see in his eyes that he wants your affection and interaction, but just isn’t quite sure yet. When I come home, he will run towards the door in full butt wagging mode until he remembers that I’m a scary human and he slows down. He will whine if we go upstairs without him for too long and wait at the bottom of the stairs, but then retreats to his safe places when the people get closer. This little man deserves a loving, patient home that can help him continue to understand the world and enjoy being a dog.
