Labrador Retriever (short coat) : : Male : : Adult : : Large Learn more about the Labrador Retriever.
Name: Zeke
From the Foster: Meet Zeke, the giant love bug!
Zeke had a rough start to life and he is still learning to trust that all people are kind. But once he gets to know you he will become your loyal best friend. And give you standing up hugs to prove it!
He loves to snuggle on the couch, snuggle on you, and always gives great kisses. He apparently doesn’t realize he is 73 pounds of muscle and thinks he’s a lap dog. If he gets really excited to see you, he will put his paws around your waist and give you a big hug. Since he has not met many nice humans in his life, he prefers to take greetings very slow on his own terms.
He likes to be the one to approach people, he gets nervous if someone reaches down to pet him or sticks their hand in his face. He will let you know when he’s comfortable by coming over and giving your hand a kiss.
His most endearing quality, by far, is that when he hears sirens he will sing along with them. It’s adorable!
He seems to like other dogs. He gets along fine with our resident and even tries to get the 11 year old lady to play sometimes. He hasn’t minded when dogs approach him while he’s walking. He does get a little nervous if people come too close on a walk but we’re working on distraction and praise to help him get comfortable.
He met a biker the other day for the first time and did not like that, so that is something he will need to work on.
He does love to chase cats, so we’re going to say no cats for him just to keep the cats safe. He is fine with our 3 children, doesn’t jump on them, just gives kisses. He does like to snuggle with our oldest son, so maybe he’s more comfortable with older kids. Dog savvy kids will be a must for him.
We are also working on loose leash walking. He is a very strong boy and likes to pull you to his favorite potty spot very quickly:) And he will have his favorite spots!
A harness helps, but he will need a strong hold on his leash He is house trained, and his favorite spot for #2 is in tall grass or bushes and sometimes it takes awhile for him to find the perfect spot.
He is a good eater and loves to have things to chew on and Kongs with peanut butter. But, his favorite things are stuffed toys with squeakers. He has a unicorn that he takes to bed with him every night. We do not have a fenced yard and he’s been great getting a few walks a day. I imagine he’d love a fenced yard if you have one, then he can have room to run when he gets the zoomies! He is crate trained and sleeps all night in his crate. When we are gone, he also goes in his crate. Some days he’ll whine or bark for a few minutes but he always calms down and does great.
Zeke is such a big sweetheart and would love to find a forever home that will continue to work with him on trusting people and new situations, especially at the vet. If you’re looking for a big hunk of love, he’d love to meet you!
