Abe is the sweetest little boy. He is a guy who knows how to enjoy life.  Abe loves everything: little dogs, big dogs, cats, kids, squeaky toys, rope toys, walks, laying in the sunshine, soft beds, cuddles, nap time and FOOD! He will do anything for a treat and waits patiently (sometimes) by the cupboard where we keep the dog food at mealtime.

We are using his love of food to work on manners. He’s a super fast learner and has already mastered sit and down. He is learning to lay calmly on a mat for treats and learning that the clicker means he did what he was supposed to do. I think he will be able to learn lots with an owner that is willing to continue the training. We are also working on chewing on appropriate things, and he’s doing very well.  He’s learning that hands and toes are not chew toys and that if he gets too excited he has to go in his kennel for some calm down time.

Abe feels very safe in his kennel and would love it if he had one in his new home so he could go there for naps and quiet times. His kennel also helps with his potty training. He is doing great on a schedule and frequent outside times after eating and playing. He is also a champ at sleeping through the night in his kennel. Although I’m sure as he gets older he would appreciate sleeping next to you in bed. 

He loves to be near people and snuggle up with a good chew toy. His preferred place to sit and chew is a lap. He loves to give kisses and get belly rubs, too. One of his favorite past times on sunny days is to lay in the grass stretched out with his legs behind him. As I said, he really knows how to enjoy life!

He is still a ball of energy and sometimes he has a hard time controlling himself. He loves children, but sometimes he loves them a little too much. A home with children that are used to dogs would probably be best. He also loves cats and tries to get them to play. Our cats don’t always appreciate that, and a quick swat is all he needs to know that he should leave them alone. Abe also loves to play with dogs, so he would love a home with another doggy friend or to be able to have frequent play dates at the park or doggy day care.

One of the things that makes Abe so cute is his precious nose. We think it’s his best feature! But it is due to a bilateral cleft lip and a cleft palate. This condition will require a bit more care, making sure he doesn’t eat things that will get stuck in his palate. He is also learning to drink out of a regular water bowl.
