From the Foster:

PLEASE SEE MEDICAL INFO AFTER BIO

Cagney is very sweet, adventurous, and playful. She is skittish of big dogs, but warms up very quickly and plays well. She has very little fear and loves to explore new areas of the house and neighborhood. Cagney is a spunky leader with a lot of personality. She would love to have a sibling to play and snuggle with. Potty training is going well. She is a quick learner and very treat motivated. She plays well with children and is learning not to nibble on their fingers and toes. Her foster sister has a lot of anxiety and Cagney doesn't quite understand how to give her space yet. She means well, but would do best in a house with a laid back dog that can handle being followed closely and nibbled on throughout the day.

Upon examination of the animal, a Secondhand Hounds veterinarian determined this pup has a recessed vulva. A recessed vulva may or may not be a health consideration for a female dog as they grow. It's possible that if spayed early (as typically done in rescue) the dog may have concerns for future persistent UTI's, a potential to form bladder stones, or perivulvar skin infections. If spayed early and a dog develops these clinical concerns later on, a vulvoplasty surgery would be advised (at the adopter's expense). It's also possible the recessed vulva, if spayed early, will cause no future health issues or concerns and only regular cleaning of the vulvar folds is necessary. In the case of these possible clinical concerns, it is generally advised to delay the dog's spay until after a heat cycle to allow for further development.

The adopter of this dog will have the choice of 1) Having the pup spayed before adoption occurs or 2) Delaying the spay until 30 days after the end of the first heat cycle.

Option 1 would involve a standard adoption contract, adoption fee as listed, with the spay completed before adoption is finalized. Any potential future medical concerns will be the full responsibility of the adopter, up to and including a vulvoplasty

Option 2 involves using a "Delayed Spay contract" where the listed adoption fee is required, PLUS an additional $200 refundable deposit. This deposit is refundable upon successful completion of the spay surgery 30 days after the end of the dog's first heat cycle (which occurs between 6-9 months of age typically). Adopters will have the choice to have this spay surgery done A) At the SHH Vet Center in Minnetonka at zero cost to them, or B) At their own veterinarian, at their cost (and at the time required by the contract).

Please let this pup's foster, and our adoption coordinator Emily Hawk, know your preference should you decide to proceed with adoption of this pup. If any further details are needed, please ask to speak to the SHH Canine Vet Care Manager.
