Name:
Daffodil
From the Foster: Daffodil is a sweet girl who has had training in her previous life. She understands polite dog behavior commands: sit, down, let's go, leave it, quiet, off, and kennel. Daffodil is not always willing to enter the kennel on her own. We are working on refreshing her kennel skills to make it a friendly place she chooses to go into. She is 100% house trained and is good on a leash.
While in the house Daffodil is relaxed and enjoys laying in the sun near the patio door where she can keep an eye on the outside world. She does prefer to be up on furniture. We created a raised platform and placed her blanket on it which helped her understand where she can be “up”. She enjoys lots of love and massages. She is very much a cuddler and likes to be near people. Daffodil is smart with a great nose. She enjoys sniffing out hidden treats from her blanket or secretly placed in her kennel. She also likes dog puzzles that challenge her nose and abilities for getting the reward. Daffodil does have anxiety and takes medication 2x a day. If she is showing signs of feeling anxious in the house, we give her a dog puzzle or hide treats for her to find. This helps her refocus her attention. Getting extra love and cuddles helps too. Going outside is the place where Daffodil experiences the most anxiety and fear. She uses her nose to learn about her environment and can get hyper-focused on things. Making it hard for her to concentrate on commands and leading to her barking uncontrollably. Sometimes it's a happy excited bark, "I want to follow that scent". Other times it is because she became afraid. We're working on controlling her barking and helping her refocus on the individual she is with. Daffodil needs a home that does not have shared walls and her new family can give her the time to build up her confidence and trust with them and her new surroundings. Consistent patterns, schedules, and lots of actively engaged time with her new family would help her feel connected. She would be happy snuggled up alongside you on the couch or snoring next to you in bed. Overall, Daffodil is a sweet, loving, and kind girl. I’d describe her as an introverted-extrovert. It may take her more time getting to know you and her new surroundings. For us, it's been worth every moment.
