From the Foster:

Dempsey is the sweetest boy around.   He came to us with an obstruction in his tummy that was undiagnosed, and very very skinny.   He went through an emergency surgery, spent a lot of time gaining back some much needed pounds – and now is ready to show a forever family how awesome he is.   We have loved having him in our home and can’t wait to find the family that is going to be his forever.

We think Dempsey is perfect, but – sometimes perfect comes with quirks.  Dempsey LOVES to play with other dogs off leash, and has done well playing with them outside, in the home, at parks – but, he is reactive on leash.  A fenced yard would be great for him so that all outside time doesn’t need to be on walk, and he should continue with training to help him feel more confident and comfortable on a leash and minimize his reactions in busy areas.   We are working on loose leash walking, and he does great if there are no others around!

Dempsey also LOVES people, but – he needs a specific type of introduction to new people.   He is very loyal and protective of his people and he can nip / bark at people on first introduction.  This doesn’t happen with all new people, but we have learned the best ways to introduce him so that he can be comfortable and figure out they are friends.  It doesn’t take long, and once he’s been introduced he behaves super nicely around everyone.  We do believe a home without young kids though will be best as they may have a harder time going slow at first when meeting him.   Understandably really, he is super adorable!

Dempsey is fully house trained, and while he can be crated – its not his favorite place.   This is likely because he knows he’s a very good boy and doesn’t need to be crated!    He can stay out for hours on his own without causing any issues at all.       He’s been in a different house and was around cats, and did ok – but was a little interested.   I wouldn’t say he can’t live with cats, or shouldn’t – but I think it would depend on the cat and how they interact specifically.    He would also do just fine living with another dog and would probably love the company, but currently does well as the only dog too.

Dempsey adores to be outside, to be active, to play and have fun – but he does just fine hanging out inside and relaxing in the quiet, too.    He is a bit of a barker when he sees things out windows, so I’m not sure shared walls would be ideal for him though.    He would fit into most environments pretty easily if you understand his needs and are open to helping manage them.

From Dempsey Himself:

I love to destroy dog toys, but shoes and socks left on the floor are not interesting – foster mom says this makes me a great boy, I think it just makes me smart.  I like to play tug with a rope toy, and then pull the rope apart with my teeth. I'm good at chasing balls, but don't understand why I should bring them back.  I've eaten a tennis ball in the past though… Hey – I get hungry!!!    So maybe don't leave me alone with one!

One last thing - I HATE vacuum cleaners.  I bark and growl at them to protect my foster mom
