Name: Valentine
From the Foster: Valentine is a puppy mill survivor who is learning all about the joys that life has to offer! Her favorite things are cheese, cuddling on your lap while you sleep, chewing bully sticks, exploring (and destroying) every toy she can find and kissing you all over your face while you’re sleeping. She is such a silly and sweet girl who you can see truly just wants to open up and give all her love to someone. In return, she needs someone with a heart of gold who is willing to be patient, meet her where she’s at and take her as far as SHE is capable of going. When she first arrived Valentine was extremely shut down and fearful. She was unable to be handled and we had to slowly let her come to us and gain our trust. Once she did, she was more than happy to open up and become the puppy we knew she would be! She tears around the house playing with our other dog, tosses food and toys in the air in little moments of pure happiness. Even though she’s come a long way, she still has a long way to go. A loud noise, fast movement or a new person will send her fleeing to hide. She also tends to bond very hard with one particular person in the house. She no longer wants to be anywhere near a crate so when we leave, we use a room to keep her safe and from going potty throughout the house since she is still in the training phase. She is doing REMARKABLE with it though and has made so much improvement with puppy pads in the short time she’s been here. She does bark some so shared walls may not work out best for her. Valentine gets very nervous around children (runs from them) and would ideally love a single person or older couple without younger children. She is looking for someone willing to see through her fear and give her time to feel safe and open up. She also needs someone who will help her gain confidence as she experiences new things in the world by not scooping her up when she gets scared, but instead, showing her that there is nothing to worry about! This will take time and patience but she is definitely worth it.
