From the Foster:
Zara is a very sweet dog who gets along fantastically with other dogs, cats, and people. If you’re looking for a companion dog for your current dog or a goofy girl who loves to flop on her people at the end of a long day, you’ve found your perfect match. She takes cues from other dogs very well and is usually very playful. Zara is extremely smart and knows quite a few tricks. She knows the commands sit, shake, lay down, leave it, and stay. She would likely pick up additional tricks quickly as she appears to be a fast learner and still moderately food driven.
Zara LOVES to be outside and one of her favorite things to do is roll around in the grass. We have a 50-foot tie out and she likes to flop down and just stretch out in the grass. Zara’s dream home includes a fenced-in yard so she can run and play without restraint. She is very content to stay outside for extended periods of time and soak up the sun. She also loves to chase squirrels and butterflies.
Zara has a couple of training areas her fosters are working hard on and would love if her future forever family would continue this training as well.
Zara is working hard on improving her leash manners. She overall does well when there are no distractions. If Zara sees another dog while walking on a leash she gets a little nervous. Sometimes she’ll stare at the other dog and needs a little extra encouragement to keep walking. Other times she will bark loudly at other dogs passing by. She will also sometimes bark and jump if a bike goes by quickly, but that is becoming less frequent. Overall, Zara is doing pretty well on leash, and gets better and better with encouragement.
The other area that Zara is working hard on is learning that it’s okay to be home alone. She's done fine when left home for a few hours at a time but definitely prefers to be with her people. However, if there are other dogs in the home, she stays very calm and doesn’t mind it nearly as much. Zara is willing to go in her crate, especially at night, but her fosters wouldn't say she loves it. Since Zara does not chew on things she knows she shouldn’t chew on, she does just fine out of the crate to free roam during the day and does even better if there are other dogs around.
Overall Zara has been a great dog to have around and we really believe that whoever becomes her forever home will be quite lucky!
