From the Foster:

Cadi - who we now call Jozi - is SUCH a sweetheart, and the photos do not do her justice as to how beautiful she is…. so much so that everywhere we go people comment on how incredibly beautiful and sweet she is! She had a bit of a rough first 7 months of her life where she was mistreated and abandoned, but has done an exceptional job at coming out of her shell and she is showing her true, sweet, loyal and loving personality. She still a little shy at first and definitely shows the most confidence in her current home but she has come a VERY long way in a couple weeks! If her personality as a dog matched that of a human, I would classify her as a perfect mixture of an introvert and extrovert; she’s a gentle and sweet soul who enjoys social functions but also enjoys relaxing on the couch with her favorite people.

When she first arrived, she was scared of literally everything. I had to carry her from room to room, inside/outside, down and up the stairs, would pee a little when someone came toward her, etc. It was almost as if she had never been in a home or around nice humans because everything was unfamiliar and new to her. BUT, she is still making strides every day and she has been incredibly good at beginning to trust and she is realizing that life should be good. She has never once shown any type of aggression, even when provoked or picked on.

While still a little shy at first, she quickly turns into a bouncy, happy girl that likes to play and run around (but she is definitely NOT overly energetic). She’s so funny because she’s kind of in that awkward teenager phase where her legs are lanky and feet are big so she trips over herself when she plays, but it’s oh-so endearing. She loves to play with her toys and adores attention from her humans and enjoys playing with my resident pup and other foster dog. Her new favorite activity is cuddling and she is SO SWEET. Although not a big kiss-giver, she loves being right by your side and on your lap if you let her, and she LOVES full body massages so much that she will fall asleep in your lap. She loves the dog park and will run around and play gently with dogs of all shapes and sizes. She has realized that she loves to stretch her legs and run, so sometimes you’ll see her run laps by herself at the dog park (she’s FAST!) and will circle back with you just to make sure you’re still there :) I think that she would make a great running partner eventually and would love someone who is willing to take her on walks and to the park! She does very well on a leash and typically prefers to walk next to me rather than out front.

I haven't yet heard Jozi bark and she is pretty quiet overall and only whines a little when being put in her crate because she would much rather be with her humans, but she does quiet down within minutes. She likes to have an antler or a hard chew in the crate with her so she can pass the time. She’s a happy puppy and will entertain herself with toys and bounce around the living room in a very sweet and playful way. She initiates play with my resident dog and my other fosters and she is gentle in her demeanor, and it’s very sweet. I don’t think it’s necessary for her to have a doggy playmate in her new home, but I am sure she wouldn’t mind having one! She molds her activity level to what you want to do, which is nice, because she’s not overly active when you want to just hang out. Now that she knows what love and cuddling is, she will happily snuggle up on your lap and take a snooze.

Jozi was not potty trained when she first arrived, but she is doing very well on a schedule! She has taken cues from my resident pup and she now goes potty after a just a minute or two after being let out, and she quickly runs back onto the deck to get back inside to be with her humans. She may initially want you to go outside with her so you can show her where to potty and she loves when you give her a bunch of praise after she goes!

It's clear Jozi has never had any formal training, but we are working on the basics. I can tell she is smart because she consistently looks at me for affirmation and makes consistent eye contact. She is required to sit before getting meals and treats and, although it currently takes a few times, you can tell that she's understanding and that, with consistency and reinforcement, it will click pretty soon! We will continue working on manners and other building blocks that she has never been introduced to. She is a very happy girl and will jump up sometimes when excited so we are learning to understand that is a no-no. She is still fairly small so she's gentle while doing so, and she has improved in this area, but she does like to be more on the level of her humans right now :)

Overall, Jozi is an absolute sweetheart who is a very happy and friendly gal. With training and consistency she will be an absolutely wonderful companion. Anyone who adds her as a family member will be SO lucky!
