From the Foster:

Hi!   I’m Coco and I’d love tell you a little bit about me.   Some of my favorite things are walks, laying in the sun and car rides, so if you are looking for a partner for weekend trips to the cabin or even just someone to keep you company in the backyard, I’m your girl!  But a good cuddle on the couch is lovely too!   And I’d be happy to keep your feet warm if I could sleep on your bed.

I’m past that high maintenance puppy phase too, so you won’t have to worry about teeth marks on your shoes or furniture or cleaning up accidents.   I will go in my crate, although I sometimes let my foster mom know I’m a bit sad to be kept away from everyone & everything!  And I will keep an eye on things and maybe give you a bit of a warning if strangers (human or dog) are approaching.

But I am looking for a special someone that can be a bit patient with me, as I had some bad experiences in my past life.  Meeting new people can be a bit frightening…so meeting folks slowly & calmly is best.  Maybe even include a few tasty treats?   I did do OK with the grandkids where I stayed for a while, but they need to be respectful kids who will give me my space.    And I can be a bit reactive if I encounter another dog while on my leash, but my foster mom is working with a trainer on that and I’m doing much better…she says to tell you that the trainer would still help you help me.  And I’m quite good on a leash, sniffing everything and not pulling at all as long as we don’t run into another strange dog.

When I’m not on a leash, I like other dogs a lot, big dogs and little dogs, and it would be really nice to have a calm doggie sibling to help teach me to be my best doggie self, but it isn’t a requirement.  I prefer the dogs that won't jump on me though - that's a little scary sometimes.

My foster mom says you should know I take some meds to help me stay calm and I need my insulin every 12 hours, but she says to tell you I don’t fuss at all about the pill and giving the shots is SUPER easy and really, I don’t mind it a bit.  It’s just a little poke, nothing to make any sort of fuss about!

So please come meet me and give me some pets…maybe even some scritches on my adorable little chest freckles?  I’m sure I’d just love that!

Through the course of my veterinary care at Secondhand Hounds it was found that I have diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, and mature cataracts. Luckily, my foster and the doctors at Secondhand Hounds and BluePearl took great care of me, and I am now ready to find my forever home! I had surgery for my cataracts, and I can see much better now. Future adopters should know that due to my multiple endocrine diseases, I will need to continue to work with a primary veterinarian, as well as an internal medicine specialist (I am currently under the care of Dr. Mazepa at BluePearl.) To manage my diabetes, my adopter will need to administer insulin everyday, as well as monitor my glucose levels with the guidance of a veterinarian. I am also on medication for my hypothyroidism. It is recommended that discuss with my future vet clinic about recommended follows ups and labwork (CBC, chemistry, UA, Fructosamine and T4)
