From the Foster:

Nilla is a super sweet, vocal, and confident pup. We have had her in our home for 5 months now and while we love her, this has been a difficult decision to accept that she is not the best match for our existing pup and his anxiety.

Energy/Environment: Nilla loves to cuddle and play with her big brother. She would benefit most in a home where she has a playmate to run around with or is able to see other dogs during the day. She loves going to doggy daycare and does well there with the other dogs. There has only been one dog that she seemed to oddly show aggression towards, but this may have been her expressing our other pup’s anxiety. She is currently not crated during the day (she is gated in the kitchen with our other pup) but has done well in a crate in the past.

Chewing: Nilla loves to chew but if she is “mouthy” at items not okay for chewing, she is easily re-directed when given a toy or a bone. She loves Benebones and can easily entertain herself with this while you are cuddling on the couch. She also loves squeaker toys and is learning to like Kongs but would rather chew on them when they're empty as she doesn't quite understand how to empty them all out but her brother helps her out with this :)

Food: She does exhibit some human food guarding as she will sometimes snap at our other dog while we are eating our meals or try to grab food items from our hands or plates. She has done well when we place her on a dog bed away from where we are eating and tell her to “stay.” We haven’t noticed any guarding while she eats her dinner next to our other pup but she may try to sneak some of his if she gets done before him but she is easily re-directed.

Bathroom: Nilla still does have some inside accidents (especially when the weather outside is poor and she doesn't want to go out) and is still learning how to tell us when she needs to go outside, but overall she is good when she is on a schedule and being let out regularly. When she needs to go to the bathroom, she will either be extra vocal or sneak off by herself and wander in the other room. She seems to know the question “Do you have to go to the bathroom?” and knows this means it’s time to go outside. She would benefit from having daily treats which discourage her from eating her own poop  :)  we can definitely pass the rest of what we have on to you.

Barking: Nilla is vocal but her barking seems to be attention-seeking and expressing our other dogs anxiety. She is fine once she is being held or has a playmate or toy to run around with.  While she is vocal, she seemed to be vocalizing our other dog’s anxiety (which just made it worse for him) so her barking may be less with a non-reactive housemate.  Nilla makes the funniest what we call “alien noises” when she's playing or chewing. Because she is vocal, I wouldn't suggest having her in a space where walls are shared.

Walking/Exercise: When on walks, Nilla does well on leash but still isn’t 100% used to the concept and would rather run around in a yard off-leash. It is hard for her to go on walks in the winter because her little paws get so cold and she'll often sit down when she doesn't want to walk anymore so she may need to be carried on winter walks. We did get her boots to use and can pass those along to you, however we did not get to try them on her before winter ended. Nilla will bark at things if she is walking with an anxious/reactive dog but is fine and relaxed on her own. She does get a little scared while walking over bridges.

Personality and Training: Nilla has the cutest little prance ever. W hile she might pretend she can’t jump on the couch or bed, she can  :) . She’s still learning “sit” and loves to stand on her hind legs when she knows she’s getting treats instead of sitting. She seems to have fetch down and is excited to bring it back and drops it mostly close to where you are  :) . She is good at "stay" and will stay on a dog bed when she knows you will come with treats if she is still sitting there. Nilla responds to her name when you call her to "come" most of the time.

We love Nilla so much and hope she’s able to find the best home where she can get belly rubs, snuggles, bones, and puppy or kid friends.
