From the Foster:

So, first off, Archer has no back feet. His momma probably accidentally chewed them off with the umbilical cord shortly after birth. So, he has 2 little nubbins for back legs, and honestly, it does not slow him down! He has no idea that he is supposed to have paws back there :) Full disclosure - we would adopt him if our home wasn't all hardwood on the main level. The wood is just too dang hard on his nubs, and they break open. So a home with carpeted areas is a MUST for our Archie boy!

Now on to the important stuff: Archer is the BEST PUPPY. He is cuddly, playful, and his face wrinkles make you want to melt. He LOVES my kids. I have a 6 year old and a 20 month old and he adores both of them. He also loves my dogs, even though they are not puppy fans! He has even convinced my Great Dane to play with him, which is no small feat. He is 80% housetrained. He never ever poops in the house, but occasionally pees if we do not watch him close enough. And mostly right by the back door, so he is trying to tell us he has to go out! He is not a huge fan of the kennel, but does settle down after a few minutes. He sleeps in bed with us at night (oops!) and holds his pee easily for 10 hours as long as he is in a warm bed with his family. He is a PRO at snuggling. Not too pushy, but just snuggly enough. He is a joy to have around, and we will miss him a ton!

Archer has seen an orthopedic surgeon who recommends fitting him with booties as he grows. She wants his nubs to form callouses, like paw pads. But, his one leg is shorter than the other, so he might need a bootie with a little extra length so it is easier on his back when he is an adult. His adoptive home needs to be willing and able to take on the expense of this, as well as the possibility of future arthritis. Other than that, he is super healthy!

All dogs are in individual foster homes throughout the Twin Cities.

If you would like to meet/adopt this animal or anyone else, then please fill out an adoption application at http://secondhandhounds.org/adoption-information/ and the foster(s) will be in touch!  Keep in mind that there may be multiple applicants applying for the same animal(s).  You only need to complete 1 application for multiple animals that you're interested in.

Note   - We change an animal's listing to say "PENDING ADOPTION" when they already had a meet and greet with a family who plans to adopt that animal.  We put "NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS" on a listing when an animal has multiple applications in and the foster has asked to stop accepting any more while they review the applications they've already received.

If you would like to be a foster for Secondhand Hounds, then please fill out a foster application,   http://secondhandhounds.org/fostervolunteer-information/fostering-101/   You can choose the type of animal you'd like to foster and we will supply everything you need (food, collar, bowls, crate, etc.) while the animal is in your care.

Thanks for your interest in Secondhand Hounds!
